Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about Import Customs Clearance Switzerland

The most important answers about inland customs, T1/T2 transit and customs clearance

What does import customs clearance cost in Switzerland?

The price for import or export customs clearance consists of several factors: processing fees, clarifications, scope (number of different products and tariff numbers). The exact costs depend on the order volume and the quality of the data received. Contact us for a non-binding cost estimate.

How long does inland customs clearance take?

The actual customs clearance at our inland customs locations usually takes only 5-30 minutes, provided all documents are complete and correct. Unlike border customs clearance, there are no waiting times. The total duration depends on whether we received the documents in advance in electronic form and were able to prepare the customs clearance.

What is the difference between border and inland customs clearance?

With inland customs clearance, goods are transported directly to our inland customs locations with a T1/T2 transit document – without stopping at the border. This means: no waiting times, plannable processes, faster processing and cost advantage. Border customs clearance takes place directly at the border and is often associated with long waiting times. With our comparison calculator you can calculate the time and cost advantage for your route yourself.

What documents do I need for import customs clearance?

For import customs clearance you need: commercial invoice(s), packing list(s), T1/T2 transit document, truck number, arrival day and time. Optional: proof of preference (for reduced duties). We are happy to support you with document preparation and check completeness.

What is a T1/T2 document?

T1 and T2 are transit documents for the customs-secured transport of goods within Europe. T1 for non-EU goods, T2 for EU goods. These documents allow goods to be transported to our inland customs locations without customs clearance.

Where are the Vector customs locations?

Vector Logistics operates several inland customs locations throughout Switzerland: Basel/Pratteln, Zurich, Cadenazzo (Ticino), Aarau, Graubünden (Duana Grischa) and others. All locations are strategically positioned for optimal accessibility from all directions. You can find the exact addresses and opening hours on our locations page.

What does AEO certification mean?

AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) is a certification from the Swiss Federal Customs Administration (FOCBS) for particularly trustworthy and secure economic operators. Vector Logistics is AEO-certified, which means faster clearances, fewer controls and simplified customs procedures – benefits we pass directly on to our customers.

What is Passar?

Passar is the new digital platform of the Swiss Customs Administration (FOCBS) that modernizes the entire goods traffic system. The system gradually replaces previous customs procedures and makes import, export and transit processes completely digital and automated. Older systems such as NCTS and e-dec are being phased out. Passar brings more efficiency, less paperwork and faster processes – for you this means: simpler, faster, more modern customs clearance.
